Duties and Responsibilities: Communicate with patients to evaluate their levels of speech or language difficulty, Determine the extent of communication problems by having a patient complete basic reading and vocalizing tasks or by giving standardized tests, Teach alternative communication methods, such as sign language, to patients with little or no speech capability, Create and carry out an individualized treatment plan, Work with patients to improve their ability to read and write correctly, Work with patients to develop and strengthen the muscles used to swallow
Salary: The median annual wage for speech-language pathologists was $69,870
Education: Speech-language pathologists typically need at least a master’s degree
Demand for this profession: There is a big demand for this profession because there's not a lot of people taking this career. Since there's lots of other medical careers that people are interested in, there's not a lot of people taking this career.
Reflection: If i had enough education to be a speech pathologist i would definitely be one. The reason why i would become one is because you get to help people when they need help. I want a career that will help someone. I think that being a speech pathologist will really help the person and it will make you feel good.
